LEGENDS CUP KINGS EDITION

A new chapter in Baskentball history has been written

Legends Cup Kings Edition Makes History in Kenyan Basketball

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan basketball witnessed a historic and emotional milestone over the weekend as the inaugural Legends Cup Kings Edition brought together some of the nation’s greatest players for a first-of-its-kind celebration of legacy, competition, and culture.

Held on Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd, 2026, the event delivered on its promise — uniting icons of the game in a powerful showcase that blended nostalgia with high-level basketball.

The tournament featured five powerhouse teams — Bunge Basketball, Knights Legends, TwenZe 1, Wakuu, and Wildcats — each packed with veteran stars who once dominated courts across the country. Over two days, fans were treated to intense matchups, flashes of brilliance, and a reminder that class, skill, and passion never fade.

A Vision Realized

At the heart of the Legends Cup is Kenyan basketball great Tranel Arron, whose long-standing vision finally came to life.

For years, Arron envisioned a platform that would go beyond competition — one that honors the pioneers of the game while allowing them to once again showcase their talent.

“This was bigger than basketball,” Arron reflected after the event. “Seeing these legends back on the court, the energy from the fans, the respect, the competition — it was everything we hoped for. This is just the beginning.”

The Teams Delivered

Each team brought its own identity and fire to the tournament:

  • Bunge Basketball, led by Levi Howze, alongside Brian Ojamaa, Charles Oyosi, and Ndindiri Waweru, showcased experience and composure.

  • Knights Legends, featuring Franklin Gitonga, Patrick Koriana, Alexander Oguso, and Franklin Omwaka, proved why their names still carry weight in the game.

  • TwenZe 1 energized the crowd with Kooshin Diriye, Griffin Ligare Wisyuba, Jeff Mwaniki, and Ancetas Wafula leading the charge.

  • Wakuu, guided by Hilmi Ali, Kevin Angura, Robert Juma Ikapian, and Dennis Opiyo, displayed balance and resilience throughout.

  • Wildcats, with Charles Maina, Nelson Njuguna, Richard Osano, and Eric Walucho, reminded everyone that experience remains a powerful weapon.

    More Than Just Basketball

Beyond the competition, the Legends Cup stood as a tribute to the players who built Kenyan basketball.

The atmosphere across both days was electric — filled with camaraderie, signature plays, laughter, and moments that reconnected fans with the roots of the sport. It was not just about wins and losses, but about legacy, brotherhood, and recognition.

“This was about giving flowers to the people who built the game,” organizers noted. “And judging by the turnout and energy, it’s something the basketball community truly needed.”

Queens Edition Up Next

Following the success of the Kings Edition, organizers confirmed that the Legends Cup Queens Edition is set for October 9th–10th, 2026, where Kenya’s pioneering women in basketball will take center stage.

Acknowledgment and Support

The SKEIYA GROUP, led by CEO Syombua A. Kibue, extended sincere appreciation to the Kenya Basketball Federation, under President Hilmi Ali, for their support in making the event a success.

What unfolded over the weekend was more than a tournament.

It was a reunion.
A celebration.
A statement.

The Legends Cup Kings Edition has officially arrived — and with it, a powerful new chapter in Kenyan basketball history.
