LEGENDS CUP KINGS EDITION: Kenya's Basketball Elite Set for Historic Showdown

Legends Cup Kings Edition Set to Make Kenyan Basketball History

NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan basketball is set for a historic moment as some of the country’s greatest players reunite for an event unlike anything seen before. For the first time in the sport’s history, the Legends Cup Kings Edition will bring together Kenya’s basketball icons in a first-of-its-kind tournament celebrating the players who helped shape and elevate the game.

The highly anticipated competition will feature five powerhouse teams: Bunge Basketball, Knights Legends, TwenZe 1, Wakuu, and Wildcats — each stacked with veteran stars, fierce competitors, and championship pedigree.

A Vision Years in the Making

At the heart of this landmark event is Kenyan basketball legend Tranel Arron, whose long-held vision was to create a platform where the country’s elite players could be honoured while still showcasing their talent.

For years, Arron dreamed of a tournament that would go beyond competition — one rooted in legacy, recognition, brotherhood, and a celebration of the enduring spirit of Kenyan basketball.

“To see this dream finally come to life is emotional,” said Arron. “These legends gave everything to the game. They inspired generations, built this sport, and deserve to be celebrated. This is only the beginning.”

The Teams

Bunge Basketball enters the tournament with a roster of proven veterans led by explosive guard Levi Howze, alongside Brian Ojamaa, Charles Oyosi, and Ndindiri Waweru.

Knights Legends counters with a formidable lineup featuring Franklin Gitonga, Patrick Koriana, Alexander Oguso, and Franklin Omwaka — players whose names have commanded respect across Kenyan basketball for years.

TwenZe 1 brings its own firepower through sharpshooter Kooshin Diriye, versatile standout Griffin Ligare Wisyuba, floor general Jeff Mwaniki, and relentless competitor Ancetas Wafula.

Wakuu arrives with a balanced and battle-tested squad led by Hilmi Ali, joined by Kevin Angura, Robert Juma Ikapian, and Dennis Opiyo.

Rounding out the field is Wildcats, featuring Charles Maina, Nelson Njuguna, Richard Osano, and Eric Walucho — a team eager to remind fans that experience never goes out of style.

More Than a Tournament

Organizers say the Legends Cup is bigger than basketball.

“This is more than a tournament — it is a celebration of the players who laid the foundation for Kenyan basketball,” said one organizer. “These are the men who built the culture, inspired younger generations, and carried the sport through different eras. Now it is their time to be recognized.”

Fans can expect an electric atmosphere filled with nostalgia, high-level competition, signature celebrations, and the unmistakable fire that only legends can bring back to the court.

Queens Edition Already Confirmed

The excitement will not end with the Kings.

Organizers have already announced the Legends Cup Queens Edition, set for October 10–11, 2026, which will celebrate the trailblazing women who have also shaped Kenyan basketball. More details on the women’s tournament are expected in the coming months.

Special Appreciation to the Kenya Basketball Federation

The SKEIYA GROUP, CEO Syombua A. Kibue, extended heartfelt gratitude to Kenya Basketball Federation President Hilmi Ali and the entire federation for their support in bringing the event to life.

“This vision could not become reality without leaders who understand the importance of honoring those who came before us,” organizers said. “Their support reflects a real commitment to preserving basketball heritage while continuing to grow the game.”

With anticipation building, one message is clear: this is not just another basketball event.

It is a reunion. A celebration. A homecoming.
